TSA Employee Harasses Customer About Her Sex Toy In Note

A Transportation Security Administration employee has been fired for allegedly leaving a personal note on a customer’s leftover TSA paperwork after discovering a sex toy in her suitcase.
The TSA learned of the incident after New York based lawyer and Feminist blogger, Jill Filipovic, who was traveling with a small vibrator, tweeted a photo of the note she found in her luggage after she went through airport security. A TSA employee had scrawled “Get your freak on girl,” on Filipovic’s paperwork in reference to the vibrator.
Filipovic posted the same photo on the blog she writes for, Feministe, with the caption “Your tax dollars at work.”
“This is what TSA will do when they inspect a bag you checked and find a, um, ‘personal item’. Total violation of privacy, wildly inappropriate and clearly not ok, but I also just died laughing in my hotel room.“
The TSA immediately launched an investigation on the case, and made the following statement on the TSA blog on Wednesday:
“Earlier this week, a passenger found a highly inappropriate note scrawled on a “Notice of Inspection” that TSA places in checked bags if they are required to be searched. She tweeted a photo of what she found and we soon learned of the incident.
The TSA confirmed on Thursday in an update on the blog that they had concluded their investigation. They also stated that they are in the process of removing the individual from the job.
“Update 10/27/11: After working with our Office of Chief Counsel and Privacy Office, we have been cleared to say the following: TSA has completed its investigation of this matter, and has initiated action to remove the individual from federal service. Like all federal employees, this Transportation Security Officer is entitled to due process and the protections embodied in the Privacy Act. Pending the completion of the removal action, the employee will not perform any screening duties.”
Filipovic says that although she finds the incident inappropriate, she does not get any satisfaction out of the fact that the individual will lose their job because of it stating:
“The note was inappropriate, the agent in question acted unprofessionally when s/he put in my bag, there should be consequences and I’m glad the TSA takes these things seriously. But I get no satisfaction in hearing that someone may be in danger of losing their job over this. I would much prefer a look at why ‘security’ has been used to justify so many intrusions on our civil liberties, rather than fire a person who made a mistake,” Filipovic said in an email statement to msnbc.com on Thursday.
