ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Thieves are going crazy for something at the mall, and it’s not video games or jewels.

KRQE News 13 has learned the illicit shoppers are stealing thousands of dollars worth of bras, panties and perfume.

In the past six weeks Victoria’s Secret had up to $20,000 worth of merchandise stolen, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

APD detectives have arrested a half dozen suspected thong thieves including a father and son and a mother and daughter. Officers say the suspects worked in pairs to steal underwear and bras.

They think the thieves are selling the items on the streets.

Police said it’s not just the people who are stealing the items who get into trouble, but anyone who buys the stolen items can get busted, too.

“If they’re aware the items are stolen, they could face possession-of-stolen-property charges,” an undercover APD detective told News 13.

Police said they’re working with mall security to crack down on shoplifting and going undercover to bust suspected criminals.

“Eventually they’re going to get caught,” the detective said. “They don’t know who we are and where we are.

“We’re out there all the time, and they’re going to get caught.”Thieves are going crazy for something at the mall, and it’s not video games or jewels but thousands of dollars worth of bras, panties and perfume.
