It’s a funny thing about human bodies, but…legs touch (never mind Instagram’s obsession with #thighgaps). British lingerie company Tortz opened for business last week, selling an “anti-chafing lingerie range”—essentially, lace-trimmed nylon bike shorts meant to provide a buffer in the area where thighs rub against each other while moving.
“I had the idea while I was on holiday in Venice and had only packed skirts and dresses,” founder Melanie Southan told Glamour, painting the picture of a busy if uncomfortable vacation. “My thighs were starting to get uncomfortable in the heat, so I cut up a pair of tights I had with me and that helped for a while.” That initial creation morphed into the current style that hits at the midthigh, meant to be worn both hidden under dresses and exposed with shorter styles, and covers what the company calls “the thigh-touch zone.”
Southan was clear that Tortz is meant for any and all body types. “A small dress size doesn’t mean friction-free thighs. One of my friends who’s a tiny ex-ballerina was really excited about them!” She says the response has been great, with new orders coming in daily from the U.K. and beyond. “It’s early days, but I’m really excited to be getting such great feedback already.”
Each pair retails for about $12, and you can shop here.
