Things to buy, and not buy, in June

The Memorial Day Sales, some of the best of the year so far, are over, and unfortunately many people missed them, because we have so much else we would rather do over a holiday weekend.

As a result, many shoppers are looking ahead to June shopping deals, once school is over and families have more time to shop.

But before you beat the heat at the mall, we have a new report on what to buy and what not to buy in June.

The financial website Deal News.com says June is a great month to buy certain things. It’s the month with the longest daylight hours of the year, which means many people are shopping till 9:30 at night.

But DealNews says if you can just wait a few more weeks, you’ll find much better buys on electronics and outdoor items.

Buy This Now

Tools: DealNews says look for tool markdowns the next two weeks, in time for Father’s Day.  It’s one of the few times a year tools go on sale.

Summer Clothing: June also brings sales on summer clothing, and spring clothing is on final clearance.

Lingerie:  June brings Victoria Secret’s semi-annual sale.  What’s not to like?

Grills and patio sets: Late June brings the first big sales on barbecue grills and patio furniture, but the biggest sales come right after the 4th of July.

Stores like Walmart and Target put patio furniture on clearance in late June, as they have to convert that department to back-to-school items by early July. Sales at Lowe’s and Home Depot start later.

What not to buy?

iPhones and MacBooks:  DealNews says hold off on Apple purchases:  The iPhone 6 and updated laptops are coming very soon.

At that point, you can either buy a new Apple gadget, or get the older one at discount.

Laptops: And hold off on laptops until July if you can: Prices will be slashed for back-to-school.

DealNews says July and August (not June) are the two best months of the year for buying a laptop.

Fall Vacation Deals

Finally, DealNews says June is a great time to book a Caribbean or Disney vacation for later in the year (but not for July or August).

Prices at both destinations drop starting around August 20th for back-to-school and hurricane season. If you don’t mind the risk of hurricanes, September through November is the best time of the year to snag a Caribbean deal or cruise.

That way you don’t waste your money.
