Thieves use tear gas to escape Minnesota lingerie store

Police responded to the Woodbury Lakes lingerie store at 9 p.m. Thursday, after a group of people sprayed something in the store before fleeing.

A sales clerk followed a woman in the group. As the employee approached the woman, she was sprayed with what she beleived to be pepper spray.

After police testing, the spray was found to be a tear gas compound, according to Michelle Okada, public information officer for Woodbury Public Safety.

Employees estimated $9,000 of damages, including the merchandise taken and damage from the spray.

The store was later evacuated.

The incident remains under investigation.
