Sadie Frost had to apologise in 2012 after her 11-year-old daughter, Iris, was pictured alongside her at a fashion show wearing a dress patterned with slogans such as ‘blow me’ and ‘eat sh*t’.

Now the actress, who also runs the fashion label FrostFrench with long-time friend Jemima French, has controversially enlisted Iris’s help with designing a new lingerie line ‘aimed at a younger, fashionable customer’.

The Iris Edie line, created for Debenhams and named after Iris, now 13, and French’s 16-year-old daughter, Edie, already encompasses pyjamas and loungewear.

But, from next month, it is expanding into lingerie with items such as brightly-coloured lace bras and knickers, which Iris, whose father is the actor Jude Law, helped design.

‘Iris and Edie were a strong influence on the collection from the word go and we all had great fun creating sketch books of inspirations,’ says Sadie of the provocative line.

Critics, however, suggest the range potentially breaches the recommendations made by the 2011 Bailey Review into the sexualisation of children, which was backed by David Cameron.

‘If Debenhams are proposing to sell see-through pants named after an under-16 year-old, then they’re not working within the spirit of the Bailey Review recommendations and we’d call on them to review their proposals,’ says Roz Hardie, chief executive of Object, which campaigns against the objectification of women in the media.

‘Particularly to link them to the names of under-16 year-olds, whether deliberate or not, is inappropriate.’

Debenhams was one of a number of retailers who signed up to guidelines on age-appropriate clothing for children issued by the British Retail Consortium in response to the Bailey Review recommendations.

A spokesman for Debenhams tells me: ‘Iris Edie by Frost French is aimed at a younger, fashionable customer. The range already comprises sleep and loungewear and now includes a new age-appropriate underwear and lingerie line.’

Iris, who was a bridesmaid at Kate Moss’s 2011 wedding to musician Jamie Hince, hit the headlines at the age of two when she was rushed to hospital after swallowing an ecstasy tablet she found on the floor of private members’ club Soho House.
