ALBANY — It was a case of some very hot lingerie.
Literally.
A Slingerlands man who set fire to a woman’s lingerie in a bathtub was convicted at trial Thursday of fourth-degree arson, which carries 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.
During a domestic dispute with the woman on Oct. 19 last year, Jeremy McGowan, 39, opened one of her dresser drawers and removed her lingerie, Albany County prosecutors said.
“McGowan then placed the lingerie in the tub of the master bathroom and lit the items on fire just prior to leaving the premises,” District Attorney David Soares’ office said in a press release. “The fire grew substantially within minutes, causing damage to the bathtub as well as the surrounding areas in the bathroom.”
No injuries were caused by the fire, which drew the attention of Guilderland police and firefighters with the Westmere Fire Department, Fort Hunter Fire Department and McKnownville Fire Department.
McGowan will be sentenced Nov. 19 by Judge Peter Lynch, who presided over the trial.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Fowler.
