Sex starved women have started purchasing sexy and naughty knickers and suspenders to distract their men away from the Euro 2012.

Retailer Littlewoods.com has reported a 38 percent increase in the sales of bras, French knickers, suspenders, and corsets since the Football tournament began on June 8.

Sales of lingerie have shot up, with Birmingham reporting highest increase at 48 percent.

Liverpool is fourth with 45 percent and London fifth with 43 percent.“My partner has been glued to the football every night so I bought a nice set of bra and knickers to get his attention,” the Sun quoted office worker Sally Williams, 29, from London, as saying.

“It seems to have paid off, although obviously it’s more difficult to distract him when England are playing,” she said.

Brand director Gary Kibble said that they were surprised with the increase in demand of lingerie, which is generally associated with Valentine’s Day.

“Lingerie is always popular around Valentine’s Day, but we’ve been surprised to see the football has had the same effect,” Kibble said.

“Football will hog television screens for the next ten days so we expect this trend to continue,” he said.

The top ten English towns enjoying the Euro 2012 lingerie boom:

Birmingham – 48 percent

Brentwood – 47 percent

Preston – 46 percent

Liverpool – 45 percent

London – 43 percent

Bristol – 40 percent

Croydon – 39 percent

Bournemouth – 38 percent

Newcastle – 37 percent

Manchester – 34 percent
