If you’re driving through northern or central New Jersey on Wednesday, get ready for a messy — and potentially dangerous — commute to work or school. Forecasters say a complex storm system will be pushing its way across the Garden State just in time for the morning rush hour, bringing a batch of snow, sleet, freezing rain and plain rain to the region.

With temperatures expected to hover very close to the freezing mark of 32 degrees, the dividing line between the plain rain and the mixed precipitation is difficult to pinpoint. But most forecasters are expecting that line to start in South Jersey in the morning and gradually move north through central and northern New Jersey during the mid-morning to early afternoon as warmer air moves in.

That means most areas of the state — except for the far southern counties — can expect the precipitation to start as snow, then make a transition to sleet, freezing rain and plain rain. Here’s a breakdown of what the National Weather Service is forecasting for each region of New Jersey.
