A new iPhone app called BuzzMob has been launched that allows you to engage in a location-based conversation with others in a specified area. Through BuzzMob, you can create or join Rings based on geographical areas that can range from a 50-foot radius (perhaps for when you want to talk to people in the same building as you) to several miles of a city.

Once you have created or joined a Ring (which can be either public or private), you can view and share messages, tips, photos and other content from The Buzz — a real-time feed of all the conversation and content being posted to that Ring. Recent conversations and content posted to a Ring are also visible in The Buzz. Content can also be shared with your friends through Facebook, Twitter or email.

The BuzzPoints feature lets you view geo-tagged tips and reviews about places nearby to help you get the most out of that area. The Photos section lets you view all photos that have been uploaded to that Ring, which will be pretty cool if you have joined a Ring at a sporting event or concert, so you can see what view other BuzzMob users have of the action.

You can reply directly to other BuzzMob users or send them an email from your personal email address. The Search function allows you to search for specific words, other users and topics, either in Rings you have joined or other Rings. You can also view content from public Rings in other locations, but you cannot contribute to the conversation unless you are physically within a Ring’s boundaries.

It’s an intriguing idea and one that could have particular value at events, where you can chat with others who are experiencing the same event you are and gain advice on what to check out. However, there are other apps which have similar functionality, such as Banjo, Domo and Yobongo, so BuzzMob has its work cut out if it is to make a serious dent in the location-based conversation space.

You can check out BuzzMob now by downloading it on your iPhone. An Android app is on the way in the near future.
