Mitchell – Bibb Wedding

Mary Elizabeth Bibb and Donald Eugene Mitchell, Jr. were married at 5 p.m. on April 18, 2015 at Lockerly Arboretum in Milledgeville.

The bride is the daughter of Pam and Frank Bibb of Rome. She is the granddaughter of Ann and Dick Leigh of Rome, Darlene Wallace of Rome and the late George Wallace.

The groom is the son of Angela Shealey and Gene Mitchell Sr., both of Fitzgerald, and the grandson of Lilian Marchant and Myra Dorrity.

Dr. Scott Walker performed the double-ring ceremony under a white arch adorned with pale pink flowers and greenery in front of Rose Hall on the Lockerly Arboretum grounds. White chairs lined a brick aisle leading to the steps of the columned antebellum mansion at the outdoor ceremony.

The bride and groom wrote their own vows, and Biblical selections were read. A string duet played a selection of classical music before and after the ceremony. The bride entered to “Bridal Chorus,” and the couple exited to “Wedding March.”

Kruti Desai, of Rome, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Katie Martin of Atlanta, Kayleigh Irby of Newnan, Denae Dorrity, sister of the groom, of Fitzgerald, and Kathryn Gibbons, cousin of the bride, of Rome. The bridesmaids wore cocktail-length dresses of light pink chiffon with necklines of their own choosing. They carried bouquets of pale pink garden roses, white hydrangeas and seeded eucalyptus, tied with pink ribbon.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father. She wore a strapless, mermaid-style gown of white satin with chiffon overlay, white floral lace applique detailing and a straight across neckline. The dress had a cathedral-style train and button details on the back. She wore a birdcage veil with netting and a floral lace headpiece. She carried a bouquet of pale pink garden roses, white hydrangea and seeded eucalyptus, tied with a white satin ribbon. She carried her paternal great grandmother’s handkerchief in the bouquet and wore her paternal grandmother’s lace garter with blue ribbon.

The groom wore a black tuxedo with a black bowtie.

The best man was Alvin Huff of Marietta. Groomsmen were Matt Hickman and Sean Kennedy, both of Atlanta. The groomsmen wore tuxedos with sage green ties.

The flower girls were Amber and Olivia Edwards of Macon. They wore tea-length pink gowns with floral lace overlay, white stockings and black Mary Janes. The ring bearer was the groom’s nephew, Charlie Kennedy. He wore a black tuxedo.

The mother of the bride wore a short-sleeved, metallic blue-gray cocktail length dress with a blue-gray lace overlay, silver sandals, and crystal earrings and hair comb. The mother of the groom wore a floor-length, red and black ensemble.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held on the grounds of the Lockerly Arboretum. Refreshments included  a two tier strawberry cake with whipped white frosting, adorned with pale pink garden roses and seeded eucalyptus.

Prenuptial showers included a miscellaneous shower at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rome, and a miscellaneous shower at First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.  The bridesmaids hosted a lingerie shower and bachelorette weekend at the Marriott Suites in Atlanta. The groomsmen hosted a bachelor party in Atlanta. On the morning of the wedding the bride’s grandmothers, Darlene Wallace and Ann Leigh, hosted a bridesmaid brunch at Market City Café in Macon.

After a honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, the couple resides in Chicago.
