Underwear believed to date from the 14th century has been uncovered in a castle in Austria, leading to an astounding discovery.

The bra may have been invented much earlier then first thought.

The find supports claims that the modern-day bra could have its roots in the Middle Ages.

Historians had previously dated the bra back as far as the 1800s.

The two ‘medieval bras’ found in the castle have a structure similar to modern lingerie – including cups and strings over the shoulders.

Archaeologists came across the underwear by accident, during a renovation of the medieval castle of Lengberg.

They also discovered textile pieces, musical instruments and a deck of cards.
