Investigators report that Erik Epperson, 22, of Veedersburg flew to San Diego in January to meet a 14-year-old girl he had met on Facebook, an online social networking site.
Once in San Diego, the girl’s step sister picked up Epperson at the airport and drove him to her home, according to the criminal complaint against Epperson.
The complaint alleges that Epperson then had sex with the 14-year-old twice on a couch at the sister-in-law’s home that night and the next day.
Eventually, it reports, the step-sister’s husband told Epperson to leave.
Through the following months, Epperson continued to exchange sexually explicit Facebook messages with the girl, sent nude photos of himself to the girl and asked for nude photos in return, authorities said.
One of those messages believed to be from Epperson reads: “Upload the pic I want, and any that shows (yo)ur whole body!”
After being tipped off to the relationship between Epperson and the 14-year-old girl, police searched online records and contacted Epperson in July.
While speaking with police, Epperson reportedly admitted to having sex with eight other underage girls in Illinois and Indiana and told police that his computer flash drive contained videos of himself having sex with underage girls.
If convicted on the Federal charges, Epperson could face 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
