Forget Cara, Kate and Naomi, when UK lingerie brand Panache were looking for women to model their latest collection, they chose to some less likely names.

‘Modelled by role models’ is the latest campaign by lingerie brand Panache.

Created in response to what they call the ‘depressing’ statistic that 75 per cent of women feel there are not enough female role models, the underwear brand have chosen to shine a light on six female role models in their latest campaign.

Jennie Bianco, Head of Marketing at Panache, explained: ‘The campaign delivers our objectives through six inspiring women and their personal achievements and I hope this will inspire the next generation of role models and I am extremely proud of the results.’

So, who have they chosen?

Hannah Cockcroft MBA

23-year-old Hannah Cockcroft is one of Great Britain’s top paralympic athletes, and is currently the the world record holder in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m wheelchair racing.

Panache said: ‘When it comes to inspiring determination and courage in the face of extraordinary adversity, the first name that comes to mind is that of Hannah Cockroft MBE.’

Martyna set up the charity ‘Day in the life’, which promotes blood, bone marrow and posthumous organ donation in her native Poland, after donating blood for the first time on her 18th birthday.

Panache explained: ‘We believe there’s no better role model than an individual dedicating their time, efforts and talents to an important cause that will save thousands of lives every year.’

New York native Marquita has been modelling since the age of 15, and has used her success to co-found ALDA, a positive body image group that encourages women to embrace their curves and take pride in their appearance, regardless of their size.

Panache said: ‘We’ve always been enormously inspired by Marquita for remaining a champion for diversity in the fashion industry throughout her career.’

Mica Paris

Mica Paris has been a fixture on the British music scene since the 90s, but isn’t just all about showbiz and glamour. She’s a patron of charities including the Space for Music Foundation and the Amy Winehouse Foundation, and also supports the ‘No means no’ campaign against the abuse of women.

Panache said: ‘Her extraordinary contributions to both music and charity led to Mica being named one of the “100 Great Black Britons” and we couldn’t be prouder to have her as one of our very own role models.’

Rachel Elliott

Rachel Elliott, a senior nurse based in London, said “It was a no-brainer really,” of her decision to head out to Sierra Leone to help tackle the Ebola epidemic on the front line.
