The big news in the world of Ice-T and Coco Austin is the impending arrival of the couple’s first baby. News broke over the weekend and exploded the morning of Monday, July 27.
The couple made the announcement during a taping of “Ice Coco,” their new talk show, which premieres Monday, Aug. 3. However, the pair is being playfully cagy with details.
“If you watch the premiere on Monday, you can get even more details,” Austin teased during a phone call Monday morning. “The gender of the baby, how far along I am — we’re trying to save those tidbits for the actual viewers.”

Details: Premieres 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, on Channel 10 (KSAZ).
She did say “it’s amazing the news is finally out. I didn’t want viewers to see a bump showing and think, ‘Why the hell is she gaining weight?’ ”
It seems likely that the pair will have a lot eyeballs tuning in. The adventures of rapper Ice-T, 57, and his puppy-loving wife Austin, 36, fueled three seasons of the popular “Ice Loves Coco” series on E! He stars on “Law Order: Special Victims Unit” and has his own podcast; she is a social-media goddess with more than 1 million Twitter followers and a thriving website.

Phoenix is a test market for the talk show, which will get a three-week run on eight U.S. stations, including Channel 10 (KSAZ). History is littered with canceled talk shows, but the two have no worries about joining the trash heap.
“We’re not bankrolling it,” Ice-T cracks. “It could fail, but fortunately we have other jobs and do other things. Because of that, you’re going to get a very loose and crazy show. We’re just gonna have fun. If you put somebody under this type of pressure and whether they’re going to be able to pay their mortgage was dependent on it, it wouldn’t be the same thing coming out of their mouths. Ice does not give a (expletive).”
Indeed, his whole approach to the talk show is that Ice-T is going to remain Ice-T. For instance, he talks about taping cooking segments.
“I’m not eating nothing crazy,” he says. “Nobody forces Ice to do something he doesn’t want to do. Well, I might do something for money, like anyone else, but I’m not going to become some different person from the one that people are familiar with.”
Austin agrees.
“Ice is the hard-core guy,” she says. “He says how it is. If there’s anything on the show about tasting something food-wise or doing some type of fitness workout, I’m the doer. Ice is the watcher. He sits back and comments.”
Austin has already proven her adeptness at this kind of thing through her lifestyle-oriented website, in which she discusses fashion, talks about her CocoLicious line of adult toys and lingerie and offers tips on fitness and makeup.
“I feel like on my website, I’ve been doing this naturally,” she says. “When girls turn on my website and ask me questions about fitness and marriage and sex, I like to get back to each and every one. I’m communicating and interacting with them. Now, I’m bringing it, but on TV.”
In the case of Ice-T, there is a definite novelty in seeing the Grammy-winning, hard-hitting musician and activist on daytime TV.
“I couldn’t imagine myself on daytime TV — I was a career criminal,” Ice-T says, in an explosion of laughter. “How could I ever imagine playing a cop for 17 years? How could I imagine being a rapper and writing books? I wanted to be that tough, cool guy that hustled and never worked, not talking to moms and middle-class White America, and having them say, ‘He’s so sweet!’ ”
He’s not complaining, mind you.
“When you have good things in your life, nothing makes you happier than when people want to listen to you for advice,” he says. “I do it on the podcast, and I try to do it in my music. We’re just exchanging our life experiences. The things we apply may not work well for you and we don’t sit down and act like we know it all, like televangelists, but it’s our life.”
