An ice hockey player who sliced up his ex-girlfriend’s lingerie after she dumped him has been spared jail.

Sean Hill, 31, ‘lost it’ when his girlfriend Laura Mugliston told him she wanted to end their relationship last November, a court heard.

Hill, who had lived with Miss Mugliston in Tonbridge, Kent, for more than a year, took a pair of scissors to her bras and knickers worth £300 before stealing her debit card for a night out.

After damaging Miss Mugliston’s (left) underwear, Hill took her debit card and went on a £300 night out

Prosecutor Alex Matthews told Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court that Hill damaged the underwear ‘following a dispute’ with Miss Mugliston.

He said: ‘He also took her debit card in anger and went out with a friend. He said, “We are having a night out on her tonight.”‘

The court heard how Hill – captain of Cardiff Bay Lightning hockey team – spent around £300 on the night out with a friend following the row.

Hill then left Kent and moved back to Cardiff, but was arrested for causing criminal damage and theft after Miss Mugliston reported him to the police.

Hill (pictured) admitted causing criminal damage and theft and was handed a one-year conditional discharge, as well as being ordered to pay £200 court costs

Emily Lauchlan, defending, told the court: ‘He saw red and was angry. He admitted it was a relationship breakdown that went wrong. He has shown great remorse for it.

‘After this incident, he moved back to Cardiff to be with his family. He plays as the captain for an ice hockey team in Cardiff.

‘He has no previous convictions and right after this incident, he repaid £1,000 to Laura for the cost of the damages.’

Hill, who admitted causing criminal damage and theft, was handed a one-year conditional discharge and told to pay £200 in court costs.
