Google+ adds games

Google+ is going after Facebook on another front. The search engine’s giant’s new social networking site has added games as an attraction.

Games are a feature that some Facebook users avoid entirely, while others flock to them, especially popular ones such as FarmVille and Mafia Wars.

Google is offering some of the most popular games of the moment, including Angry Birds, Zynga Poker, Bejeweled Blitz, along with City of Wonders, Dragon Age Legends and several others.

How does Google share your information when you’re goofing off in the games section? People in your circles can see which games you’ve played, and you can see what they’ve played, but only when you’re on the games page. The information doesn’t appear in the general Google+ newsfeeds.

Before a Google+ member plays a game, the site will ask permission to view specific information, like one’s public profile, name, gender, birth date, and the names and public profile information of people in their circles. After they’ve played, they get a pop-up message asking if they want to share their high scores and which of their circles they want to share it with.

Google+ is already rolling past the 25 million user mark, according to comScore.

Classical music fans with iPads will enjoy a new free app created exclusively for that device.

iClassics is a classical music discovery app developed by Deutsche Grammophon, Decca Classics U.S. and L4 Mobile.

With it, users can explore recordings from these two classical labels’ large music catalogs. The search uses different criteria, including composer, instrument, time period and mood, to create recommendations for individual listeners.

Features include streaming radio and audio samples and an interactive time line of more than 100 composers from medieval to the present.

The iClassics app is a free download.

Snapseed, a photo enhancement and sharing app for iPad, is now available for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Snapseed users can take photos, edit and enhance them, and share them through social networks through their mobile devices.

They can choose different aspect ratios, create custom borders, correct photos shot in poor lighting conditions, adjust white balance or contrast and create effects that make images look like color photos from the ’50s, ’60s or ’70s, or black and white. The U Point feature lets users make easy adjustments from the device’s touch screen.

Snapseed is $4.99. People who already have the iPad version can install the iPhone or iPod Touch version for free from their iTunes library.
