The geo-location-based mobile dating app which lists available gay men in your nearby location is set to bring it’s services to the heterosexual community.
According to the Daily Beast, Grindr has a network of around 2.6 million people in 192 countries; with the average user engaging with the app around one-and-a-half hours a day. While the app was designed for gay men, it has a growing popularity amongst other demographics according to one Texas housewife:
I think it’s a little bit of voyeurism and a feeling that you’re in on a secret that no one else knows.
Taking note, the ‘largest all-male based location network’ is set to launch a heterosexual equivalent sometime this week. Grindr CEO Joel Simkhai recently spoke about the upcoming app – nicknamed ‘Amicus,’ stating that the new version will have more of a networking lean to it, stating:
Facebook does a great job keeping you connected with people you already know…but how do you meet new people? How do you make new friendships?
