In the interview with Tatler magazine which is published this week, Miss
Phillips said that she and Tindall, 32, were so busy with their careers,
they would not be able to take a honeymoon “until we’re both retired”.

Miss Phillips has been competing at Burghley Horse Trials over the weekend,
while Tindall is in New Zealand preparing for the Rugby World Cup which
starts this week.

The Queen’s granddaughter, who is 12th in line to the throne, was also asked
why her mother, the Princess Royal, decided not to bestow her or her brother
Peter with the HRH title.

She said: “I don’t know, actually. I should ask her. I think it was good,
though. My brother and I have been able to get on and have been very lucky
to do things with our family that other people wouldn’t have been able to
do. But then again, we’ve also been able to live a normal life as well.”

She added: “…in a sporting way, I wanted to be good at what I was doing. And
I think in my family, we’ve been brought up to be good at what we do.”

She also spoke of her relationship with her parents, describing her father,
Captain Mark Phillips, a former Olympic gold-medal winning eventer as a
harsher critic of her career than Princess Anne, who has also competed at
the Olympics.

“My dad can be pretty critical sometimes,” she said. “If I’ve done something
really well, he will tell me. But it is hard to get a compliment out of him.
It’s just the way he is and the way he trains. It’s fine if you’re doing
well and feeling confident – but when you’re not doing so well, it can be
more difficult. That’s when I go and see my mother.”

Miss Phillips, who previously wore a tongue stud, laughed off her image as a
“royal rebel”, saying that these days she enjoyed relaxing by cooking her
signature dish of spaghetti bolognese for her husband at their home in
Gloucestershire. She also defended her decision to pierce her tongue: “…at
least I didn’t have it coming out of my nose, or anything.”

Miss Phillips, who recently launched her own range of children’s riding wear,
has yet to decide whether she will travel to New Zealand to support her
husband during the rugby world cup.

Her spokesman said: “Zara has several competitions over the next month, and
she wants to see how her horses come on and how she fares in those
competitions before deciding whether or not she heads out there to see Mike.”
