Due to raised privacy concerns, Facebook’s made it easier for users to opt out of the “tag-suggestion” facial recognition feature. Concerns raised by Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen prompted the social network to make this effort. Facebook’s been running an online ad alerting users to this move and linking them to their privacy settings, the Attorney General said in an email. He also said that the Palo Alto, California-based social media site has made it easier to identify and report imposter profiles.
Facebook lets you opt out
The facial recognition tag suggestion facilitates Facebook recognizing people who are in added pictures with their names linked. The Attorney General said that a critical component of Facebook privacy is to let users have the choice of whether they want this feature enabled or not. Jepsen said, “For any users who opt out, any facial recognition data collected will be deleted”. He said that he was assured by Facebook that the data would not be used for commercial or marketing purposes, and the feature couldn’t be used by one user to gain access to another user’s information.
