But recently, the social networking website helped her track down two stolen blue pit pull puppies.

Drotos said the family noticed two puppies were missing on the morning of Aug. 4, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The family called the Sheriff’s Office to report the theft.

The family pit bull had recently given birth to eight puppies, Drotos said. The family had sold five of the puppies, given one to a friend and kept the remaining two.

Drotos, 19, asked friends to help find the puppies and promised a cash reward in a Facebook post.

Three of her friends responded to the post and within an hour an acquaintance of Drotos sent her a photo of a man holding the stolen puppies.

“If it wasn’t for Facebook, I wouldn’t have found them because she’s not a close friend and doesn’t have my number,” Drotos said.

Tony A. Anderson, 22, of Mulberry, was the man in the picture holding the two pull bits, who Drotos identified as a former boyfriend. Drotos contacted Anderson and he returned the puppies.

Anderson had sold one of the puppies to a friend for $200, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies met with Anderson on Tuesday and after interviewing him arrested him for taking the puppies.

Anderson told deputies that he took the puppies from Drotos barn during the night, according to an arrest affidavit. He said he had been drinking when he took the puppies and didn’t have a motive for stealing them.

He was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of burglary of a structure without a person inside, theft and dealing in stolen property. He was released on $7,000 bail, according to jail records.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Eleazer said this was the first time she can remember Facebook helping find stolen puppies.

The Sheriff’s Office uses Facebook to post alerts of crimes and sometimes it also receives tips that help lead to arrests.
