LA PLATA, Md. (WUSA) — Sheriff’s deputies caught a man wanted for burglary after posting the suspect’s photo on the department’s Facebook page, officials said.

Charles County Sheriff Rex W. Coffey said the sheriff’s office Facebook page helped investigators positively identify a man who recently broke into Cooksey’s Store in La Plata, a news release said.

“Within hours, tipsters contacted investigators and provided them the name of the suspect. Detectives subsequently identified the man and charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation,” officials said.

After nabbing the suspect, the Charles County Sheriff’s Facebook page posted: “Thank you Facebook friends! Your tips helped ID the suspect who broke into Cooksey’s Store last week. Our investigation is continuing and charges are now pending. Thank you!”

The Charles County Sheriff’s Facebook page has almost 3,000 “Likes” as of Tuesday morning.
