Chantal Thomass’s Parisian hotel design inspired by seven deadly sins

Lingerie designer Chantal Thomass has lent her boudoir stylings to the decor of a new hotel on Paris’s Left Bank, seeking inspiration in the seven deadly sins.

The Vice Versa hotel, located rue de la Croix Nivert, is seven stories high to accommodate one sin per floor — namely wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony — and has 37 rooms.

Chantal Thomass had fun creating different atmospheres for the seven sins by choosing the furniture, wallpaper, and drapery for each theme. The bar “in Heaven” and the hammam “in Hell” complement the sinful design.

“I was really given free rein for my choices, with some technical constraints, of course. Lust and gluttony were two areas where I was expected to perform, but the real challenge was working on greed and pride, two sins that don’t suit my character so much,” explained the designer.

To suggest lust, she decorated the rooms with a ceiling mirror, her trademark pink and black hues and heart-shaped objects. Sloth-themed rooms, in contrast, bask in a bucolic atmosphere, complete with soft pink and almond green hues and butterflies.

The “classic” rooms are priced at €149 and their Deluxe counterparts fetch €199.

The hotel is already open to the general public, although its official opening ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, to coincide with the Parisian tourism tradeshow IFTM-Top Resa.
