Having launched her eponymous label in 2014 after noting a lack of affordable nightwear that wasn’t “femme fatale or novelty”, Natalija Bouropoulos left her career in corporate marketing to pursue all things sleep-inspired.

We caught up with the owner of the fledging Sydney-based label, whose goods are stocked at The Iconic and Antropologie, to talk wedding night lingerie, fabric choice and not limiting yourself, when it comes to lingerie, to the bedroom.

What advice do you have for brides-to-be look for wedding night lingerie?
“Wear seriously lust worthy pieces – think silk shorts, pretty bodysuits, and seductive kimonos. A stunning sheer cover up like our Peony Lace Robe adds mystery to your wedding night look. The transparency of the cover up draws attention to your silhouette creating such a sensual and sexy effect.”

What should one keep in mind when looking for the right sleeping garments? Are there wrong fabrics to choose or styles?
“Choosing what to wear to bed can directly affect the quality of your sleep. My focus when designing is on luxury and comfort, so I carefully selected fabrics that make women feel beautiful, ensuring they have a great sleep and wake up feeling revitalised for the day ahead. Silk is considered to be one of best fabrics to sleep in. It is comfortable, soft to touch, naturally hypoallergenic, breathable, and makes you feel amazing. Silk is also capable of keeping you warm during winter, and cool in the hot summer months.”

Are there any dos and don’ts you live by when it comes to wearing loungewear out of the house?
“The attitude – be yourself and don’t worry about what everyone is wearing. Wear what makes you feel happy and confident. Though the key when it comes to wearing loungewear out of the house is that it’s about your fabric choice. Silk works better than cotton; it has more of a luxe feel and better drape. As for colours and prints the usual rules apply – neutrals are classic, bold prints will look fashion forward, while slippers and fluffy toys are unadvisable – but never say never.”

How should one care for garment like these?
“With love! Silk fabric can last a lifetime, and can easily become heirlooms if properly cared for. Garments must be handled delicately to avoid snagging. We recommend dry cleaning or hand washing your silk in cold water using specialist silk detergent. To restore silk garments lustre, it can be steamed or cool iron on reverse side.”
