Double Rainbow Guy, also known as Paul Vasquez, is running for president in 2012. And he’s manning his campaign via Facebook.
Vasquez, who resides in a mobile home just outside of Yosemite National Park, set up his campaign using the Facebook app Votocracy, as reported by Mashable. His campaign name, as listed on his Votocracy page, is “Yosemitebear Vasquez.” His slogan? “Emergency! Alternative Energy!” Clearly, he’s excited.
His enthusiasm shines through in his campaign video where he discusses his goals and objectives, appropriately backed by a double rainbow. His vision for a new country is clear.
“If I was to get elected president, I would declare a state of emergency. I would create a section of the government like Homeland Security but it would be for alternative energy. That department would be in charge of making sure that we can maximize our efforts to get ourselves on alternative energy.”
Vasquez feels alternative energy is “priority one,” which he makes loudly apparent in his video.
Candidates gain support from Facebook “Likes” on their votocracy pages. Currently, 160 supporters “Like” Vasquez’s page.
Also running for president in 2012 via Votocracy is Derek Broes, a native Angeleno. While he lacks experience in nature’s duplication powers, the former senior vice president of the digital division at Paramount Pictures spent four years running global wireless strategy for Microsoft.
What does it mean? Anyone with passion can gain support sans previous political background or a hefty campaign budget, and we may have a surprising new candidate entering into the presidential race.
