Mobile, Ala.: – Airbus announced their commitment to the City of Mobile and the State of Alabama today before a crowd of over 1,000 people. Media representatives from all over the world were poised with cameras and laptops to share the great news of Airbus choosing Mobile for their U.S. assembly plant.

Chief Executive Officer Fabrice Bregier compared the event of Airbus landing their assembly plant in Mobile to the Declaration of Independence. “I recently learned that the Declaration of Independence was actually signed on July 2nd, not on the fourth. Here is another historic moment on July 2nd 236 years later.”

Bregier commented that to have an assembly plant in the U.S. was the natural next step. Airbus already does business with over 100 suppliers in Wichita, Kansas, Melbourne, Florida and Mobile. According to Bresier, Airbus already generates over 14 billion U.S. dollars in the U.S.A., and has created over 250 thousand jobs and partners with business in over 40 states. To name a couple are B.F. Goodrich and Honeywell in Faulker, Maryland.

Construction on the facility starts in 2013 and according to Mayor Sam Jones, “this will bring in about 3,200 construction related jobs.” He added “When airbus lands we are prepared to takeoff with our commitment.”

Team Mobile has been working to bring the assembly plant to Mobile for more than seven years

County Commissioner Connie Hudson noted that there are many historical ties connected to the event. She told of another historical July 2nd other than the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and that was when Azaleas were introduced to Mobile as a gift from Toulouse, France and today we welcome Airbus from Toulouse.

Hudson said the Mobile Team Airbus had a code name for their efforts, which was Hope. “Today that hope becomes a reality,” she announced.

Many other state, city and company officials spoke and announced “What a great day for Mobile and the state of Alabama.”

Once completion of the facility arrives in 2015 the first A320 will roll off the assembly line in 2016. Airbus anticipates that they will be producing 40 to 50 aircraft a year in the A300 family of single isle planes. Once fully operational there will be over 1,000 full-time well paid employees.

After the event, Chris King of Roberts Brothers Realty said, “This will bring in money and people and boost the economy. The new people coming into the city as staff and crew will turn into buyers of real estate. We will definitely see an increase in sales and need for new and existing homes.”

Former District Attorney John Tyson said, “This may be the best thing that has happened to Mobile since the days of Iberville and Bienville.” It was Iberville and Bienville the French explorers who found Mobile Bay in January of 1699, and later established the current day city of Mobile. Tyson added, “This is going to have world wide impact.”
