Watch out, Cara – Dylan Penn is fast becoming the new model-slash-actress to watch. As well as starring on last month’s L’Officiel Italia cover and appearing in Stuart Weitzman’s video campaign, the 23-year-old has just been revealed as the face of Ermanno Scervino’s spring summer 2015 campaign. Penn poses alongside Argentinean model Mariano Ontañon in the images, shot by photographer Francesco Carrozzini, and looks truly sumptuous.

In celebration, WWD hasconducted an interview with Dylan to discuss her quick-fire ascent in the modeling world. It gives us a closer look at the daughter of Hollywood royalty (her mum is Robin Wright and her dad is Sean Penn, dontcha know) who was once linked to RPattz and is fast becoming our new fascination.

Here’s a recap of what we learned from the chat…

She’s a bit of a shameless tomboy

When Dylan meets WWD, she’s wearing skinny blue jeans and a ‘badass’ leather jacket, accessorised with a sports bag from her self-defense class.

The salary swayed her into becoming a model

“[Modeling] was something I was really trying to stay away from originally, just because I consider myself a really shy person,” she says. “I didn’t think I’d be good at it. But after realising what kind of pay I would get, I decided to swallow that fear and try it out.”

Scervino was drawn to “her contemporary beauty”

The designer cleary has a thing for models from famous families – see previous Scervino faces Theodora Richards and Dree Hemingway – but he encouraged Penn’s efforts to move past her surname and express her individuality. Just check out those bleached eyebrows! “Dylan is a young, beautiful woman, conscious of her background and close to her family but also very independent and determined to succeed in her own professional career,” he told WWD.

She knows her last name plays a part in getting certain jobs

“I’m not oblivious to that fact. But I don’t think I would be hired for things if I was really wrong for the part,” she says. “I also think a lot of it depends on personality, vibe, clicking with that designer, that crew or whatever.”

Her dad found out from someone else about those provocative pictures

In April, Dylan posed in the buff for a shoot in highbrow erotica magazine Treats!. “‘I wish you had given me some kind of warning,’” she recalls dad Sean telling her at the time. Now, she says, “I’ll wait a little while until the next thing like that.”

She leaves her social accounts in the hands of her modeling agency

“I don’t think sharing so much is that appealing,” she says. “Especially for public figures, it’s important to have some kind of mystery.”

She resisted acting for a long time

“I always knew subconsciously that I would try it out because it’s something I grew up around,” she says. “It just felt familiar in a sense but also scary. There is this pressure because of who my parents are.” Her first movie is Condemned in which she plays a 16-year-old runaway alongside Lydia Hearst.

She wants to write a dark comedy about fashion

“I would like to do something on the fashion industry at some point because it’s a whole world in itself,” she said. “It’s so funny and dark in its own way.” Devil Wears Prada, take 2?

Optimistic chic is the theme of the Michael Kors campaign, shot by Mario Testino. “Spring is about rebirth and renewal, so the collection and the campaign convey the upbeat elegance and color that the season brings,” says the designer. Julia Roberts for Givenchy

For SS15 Riccardo Tisci wanted an “honest” campaign to celebrate strong women, using his iconic pieces. The result is a poker-faced Julia Roberts wearing an oversized tuxedo with no makeup. Riccardo Tisci said of the Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott campaign: “I said to her, “Because your smile is so beautiful and everybody knows you for that, I think it should be no smile,” and she was really cool. She said we should go for it.”

Madonna for Versace

Madonna, 56, is the new face of Versace taking over from Lady Gaga. Madonna said of the Mert Alas Marcus Piggott campaign: “It’s always exciting to be dressed head to toe in Versace and experience first-hand Donatella’s vivid imagination and passion that she has created for this collection.”

For the SS15 campaign the Balmain army – Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Isabeli Fontana, and Crista Cober – are eating burgers and playing video games in their matching colourful Balmain. Olivier Rousteing said to Style.com: “You can really feel the army, you can feel the battle. You can feel the power of the girls, and we usually don’t see that in a campaign.”

Naomi Campbell for Agent Provocateur

Naomi Campbell, 44, is the new face of Agent Provocateur. I would never have thought I’d be doing this at 44. I never ever thought that I would be modeling lingerie in my mid 40s!’ Naomi told us from her New York hotel room, ‘When I was younger and I did lingerie shoots, I never really felt comfortable. I was just awkward and shy about showing my body in that way. It’s taken me to get to this age to feel comfortable in a lingerie shoot – in fact I think this is first time I’ve ever felt truly comfortable with it.’

Nicki Minaj for Roberto Cavalli

We didn’t think we’d find a Spring Summer 2015 campaign any hotter than Calvin Harris for Emporio Armani. Then came Roberto Cavalli who has a new super-face… Ms Nicki Minaj. Roberto Cavalli said of his new face: “I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of the Cavalli woman. In recent years we have become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes.”

Kim and Kanye for Balmain

As well as Balmain’s supermodel-studded campaign, Creative Director Olivier Rousteing has treated us to two very special guests for his menswear campaign: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The designer is close friends with the couple and has opened up about the campaign, shot by Mario Sorrenti. “For this Menswear campaign, I wanted to capture a moment of love. Kim and Kanye are style icons and friends. It is an honour to have them in this Balmain campaign. Together, they represent love, beauty and diversity — they are the new modernity. ‘Bachelor’ premiere: A pig nose, a fake heart, a really drunk girl and more

A new season of The Bachelor, starring Prince Farming – Chris Soules, who came across as pretty charming on Night One – kicked off Monday. We watched as he went from his small town in Iowa to L.A. and faced 30 beautiful (and crazy) women.

Here are the highlights of Monday’s episode:

THE RED CARPET PREMIERE

Host Chris Harrison was live on a red carpet for the first hour of the three-hour kick-off. He chatted up Bachelor favorites Sean Lowe and wife Catherine, asking about kids. “They’re on our radar,” said Catherine. “Sean likes to say we’re practicing.” Sean said to look for a baby to “pop out” in 2016.

Bachelorette Andi Dorfman said she and fiance Josh Murray haven’t started planning their wedding yet. Nikki Ferrell talked about how she and Juan Pablo Galavais just “two different people” and that’s why the relationship is over.

THE WOMEN MAKE THEIR ENTRANCES

Most not-really-funny entrance: Reegan, a “donated tissue specialist” from Manhattan Beach, Calif., brought a cooler. “I sell human tissue,” she told the puzzled Bachelor Chris. She opened the cooler to reveal what kind of looked like a heart. “It’s just a joke,” she quickly said.

Most elaborate entrance: Tara, a “sports fishing enthusiast” from Ft. Lauderdale (can you really pay the rent being that?), stepped out of the limo saying “yee haw” and tugging on her Daisy Dukes. She had on cowboy boots with her short jean shorts. She then went in the mansion, changed into a black dress, came back outside, slipped into the limo and came back out to meet Chris again. “You’re back,” he said. “It would have been fine either way.”

Stupidest entrance: Amanda, a ballet teacher from Illinois, didn’t let Chris see her. He told her to close his eyes before she got out of the limo, then approached him from behind. She said she was going to be his “secret admirer.” He found her later in the mansion where another girl noticed Amanda’s “big eyes” and the show kept focusing on them. “You have to make eye contact with Chris,” she said.

Sexiest entrance: Kaitlyn, a dance instructor from Vancouver, greeted Chris is a super tight dress. “I know you’re name is Chris and I know you’re a farmer.” She then said, “You can plow the (bleep) out of my field any day!” He was stunned. “You just took my breath away with that one.” Later, she taught Chris how to dance.

Coolest entrance: Tandra, an executive assistant from Sandy, Utah, rode in on a motorcycle with a long glittering gown. “That’s pretty cool,” said Chris.

Just plain wrong entrance: Nicole, a real estate agent from Scottsdale, wore a pig nose. “I wanted to ham it up for you to make you feel at home and hopefully make you laugh.”

Sleaziest entrance: Brittany, a WWE diva-in-training, wore a short white lace dress that looked like lingerie that was struggling to stay on her. She held up a sign that said, “#Soulmates.” It was uncomfortable and all wrong.

Dorkiest entrance: Carly, a cruise ship singer from Arlington, Texas, got out of the limo holding a little karaoke machine. She sang a song to Chris about the two of them winding up together.

THE ROSE CEREMONY DRAMA

Tara was drunk. We saw her guzzling “Jack on the rocks.” Then we saw her have the hiccups and burp. During the rose ceremony she was tilting, yawning, rubbing her hands together as though she was cold and muttering. It prompted Bachelor Chris to stop halfway through and consult host Chris, who said, “It’s 100 percent up to you.” Bachelor Chris wound up giving drunk Tara a rose.

Brittany, Nicole, Amanda and Reegan were among the six women who were sent packing. From the sneak peek of the season we should expect lots of tears, someone sneaking into Chris’ tent, more tears and Chris feeling really bad about something he did. Onward!
