Karolina Kurkova shows off her Christian

Although you’re probably most accustomed to seeing this Victoria’s Secret angel in the pages of your favorite lingerie catalogue, Karolina Kurkova is nothing if not experimental in her fashion and footwear choices off the runway.

We’ve long had our eyes on the leggy catwalker, who’s been known to support edgier, modern labels than some of her contemporaries, choosing styles by Del Pozo, Honor and David Koma. And she never plays it safe when it comes to heels. Case in point: On Tuesday night, the Czech beauty attended an event in Switzerland wearing a a beaded dress by Haney and a pair of shockingly good shoes. The designer behind the floral-applique heels? Christian Louboutin, of course, created the Pensamoi pumps, equipped with a velour upper, crystal-embellished flower and a 4.75-inch heel with a signature slick of crimson. (The style currently retails for $1,395.) And what could have been a so-so 1920s-inspired outfit is amped from the feet up.

I’ve been following Kurkova’s footsteps for some time, tracking the model from her penchant for statement-making Giuseppe Zanotti platforms to Gina sandals and classic Ferragamo heels. While there’s no doubt she knows her way around some of the more fashion-forward gowns that could present obstacles to vertically challenged stars, Kurkova shines when she concentrates on what’s below the ankles. Her shoe wardrobe indicates that she has an acute attention to detail and a knack for what works — and walks — best in a sea of celebrities.

Victoria’s Secret is using the Super Bowl to remind people of another significant day in February: Valentine’s Day. The FLOTUS fashion…

Michelle Obama has been known to provide sophisticated fashion inspiration for women America-wide. This was further proven last night when the first lady donned a Michael Kors suit jacket at the State of the Union address and it sold out overnight. [The Cut]

McQ’s artist installation…

While other brands tapped celebritiesauthors, and musicians for their Spring ’15 campaigns, McQ Alexander McQueen went in a different direction, choosing instead to collaborate with a visual artist. Ophelia Finke, a London-based Central Saint Martins-trained artist, was commissioned by McQ to create an installation that resembled an artist’s studio. The installation was then used as the backdrop for the house’s latest ads, which will be featured in upcoming March issues of Love, Dazed, and i-D. [WWD]

Target’s new line…

Target has announced it will be launching a new plus-size label that will be available both in store and online as of February 22. The line, Ava Viv, will provide more fashion-focused plus-size pieces than Target has previously offered and will feature fashion bloggers in its lookbook. [The Huffington Post]

A young Bey…

Though Beyoncé is currently one of the biggest stars on the planet, her rise to fame wasn’t as glamorous as you might think. A video from 1997 recently surfaced online featuring a fresh-faced 16-year-old Bey singing backup for Houston-based rapper Lil’ O, alongside the original members of Destiny’s Child. [Nylon]
