When it comes to Valentine’s Day, a little can go a long way.

Whether this means spending little or wearing little, it doesn’t have to take much to impress your sweetie – and if you’re looking to add a little sexy to your gift this year, keep it simple.

“You don’t need to conform to the status quo if you don’t think your partner will like that type of gift. However, if your partner loves the traditional Valentine’s Day gifts and the day itself, it’s time to suck it up and treat them to what they want,” said Kimberly Moffit, relationship expert and Canadian Match Insider.

“In my experience as a relationship therapist, I’ve found that people are touched more by how much thought their partner put into a gift than the actual gift itself, so don’t leave it to the last minute.”

While lingerie always seems like a good gift idea, it can be taken in the wrong light if not done correctly, Moffit says. Instead, do a little research to help you land the perfect pieces.

“Try going lingerie shopping with your partner in advance of Valentine’s Day, which can help them feel sexy, desirable, and be involved in the process,” she said.

“Shopping for lingerie together in advance can also heighten the anticipation of Valentine’s Day.”

Despite the heavy Hallmark presence of this holiday, a simple gesture to show your loved one you’re thinking about them doesn’t have to come from the mall – and it especially doesn’t have to be reserved for one day, Moffit adds.

“Something as small as hiding chocolates in the coffee cupboard or a card by their toothbrush shows them that you thought about their needs in advance.”

“Keep it simple. You want to be tantalizing but not freak them out with anything over the top. According to a Match survey this year a handmade or sentimental gift is the most desired (27%) gift. Try creating a homemade massage kit with a scented candle, some body lotion and a few romantic songs on your playlist.”

The long-time together couple

“Try injecting a little sex appeal into your usually-romantic gifts,” Moffit said.

“You don’t have to go too crazy price-wise to make a big impact but Valentine’s Day can be a good time to indulge! For her, splurge on a cute designer handbag that she loves, but for an added twist, hide a naughty novel inside. For him, pick up his favourite cologne, but throw a few sexy selfies of yourself in the box.”

“Time to really spice things up. Don’t be afraid to go over the top by surprising him with a book of boudoir photos of yourself. Or, plan a dinner and dessert in bed complete with chocolate and strawberries and maybe a little lingerie!”

The 35-year-old reality star, who has shied away from the limelight in recent months since giving birth to first son Saint West, wrapped up in a black and white fur coat reminiscent of the one worn by Disney villain Cruella de Vil.
