eTeacher Group Online Language Academy Offers Free Weekly Biblical Hebrew … – SYS

eTeacher
Group
is offering curious people around the world the chance to ask
questions about the Bible, and receive detailed answers via brief video
tutorials from a recognized authority on Biblical and Modern Hebrew.

eTeacher Biblical’s video series investigated why Michelangelo’s statue of Moses depicts horns, tracing the characterization back to a Latin misinterpretation of the Hebrew word for “shine” in the Biblical text. (Photo: Business Wire)

Each installment of the “Biblical Hebrew Question of the Week” video
series runs approximately six minutes and includes a brief animated
presentation along with verbalized Hebrew and English translations, and
Old Testament contexts. The questions of the week are available on eTeacher’s
YouTube channel
and also on its Facebook
page. Anyone can ask and comment on eTeacher’s website at http://eteacherbiblical.com/questions-of-the-week.

The Biblical Hebrew Question of the Week series debuted quietly in
April, and already includes 15 of the mini-tutorial answer installments.

“Some Biblical Hebrew words have multiple interpretations so answers can
differ according to the context,” said Sigal
Zohar
, the eTeacher faculty member anchoring the video series. “For
example, Satan or “Ha-Sah-tan” can be a personal name with or without an
article, or it can mean an ‘adversary’ or ‘opponent’ or ‘the Satan’.”
Zohar, who brings nearly two decades of experience teaching Hebrew,
literature and creative writing to the project, points out that the word
can also mean “supernatural” or “a celestial figure near the Lord” as
noted in Job 1:6.

In one of her initial videos, Zohar also answers the mysterious question
of why Michelangelo’s
16th century statue of Moses
depicts the Patriarch with
short horns on his head. She explains that while the original Biblical
Hebrew language in Exodus described Moses’ face as “shining” upon
receipt of the Ten Commandments, the Latin translation assessed the
Hebrew word “kar-nai-yim” to mean Moses’ face was “horned,” leading to
Michelangelo’s famous interpretation.

The eTeacher Group’s Biblical
Hebrew program
teaches students to read the Bible in its original
language. Through the joint venture, Biblical Hebrew students learn in
virtual classes conducted via live
video conferencing
from anywhere in the world. A certified
instructor presents lesson materials via a multimedia application
running on each student’s computer screen through which students can
speak with the teacher and other class members. Course materials include
a blend of classic and online content developed specifically for online
learning.

The online classes are very interactive with animated student
discussions occurring throughout and students experiencing the benefit
of a fully-participative classroom experience. This interactive aspect
of eTeacher’s program now extends to the Biblical Hebrew Question of the
Week with questions accepted free of charge from any interested party
and a full dialog-based response occurring on video. The eTeacher’s
YouTube channel can be found at http://www.youtube.com/user/learnClassicalHebrew.
