A young Wirral university graduate who recently launched her own line of lingerie aimed at women with breast cancer has announced a charity partnership which will support cancer research.

Morgan Dowler, founder of Love Me and My Secret, has named North West Cancer Research as her first ever charity of the year and will donate a percentage of her profits to the charity in the hopes of finding a cure for cancer.

The 23-year-old entrepreneur set up the company earlier this year, after her mum Amanda, 54 was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Disappointed in the choice of bras on the high street for women following surgery, Morgan researched the market and discovered a gap for lingerie which is both comfortable and attractive.

Following discussions with doctors and surgeons, as well as women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, Morgan has created a range of bras which are both practical and feminine.

The range is available online and Morgan hopes to roll out the lingerie to high street retailers over the next 12 months.

She selected North West Cancer Research as her first ever charity partner after learning of its commitment to supporting cancer research here in the North West.

She hopes to support various cancer charities on an annual basis, helping support research and treatment programmes for women with breast cancer.

North West Cancer Research is the biggest locally-based funder of cancer research and has committed to funding more than £12.3m worth of research over the next five years – £8.1m of which will be based at the University of Liverpool.

Anne Jackson, North West Cancer Research chief executive, said: “Many of our long standing supporters have undergone breast cancer treatment and know all too well the struggle of finding underwear which not only fits well and is comfortable, but looks nice too.

“It’s inspiring to see someone like Morgan using her own personal story to create something which will hundreds if not thousands of women all over the UK, not just here in Merseyside.”

Every year nearly 58,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK, which is the equivalent of one person every 10 minutes. In Merseyside around 343 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year, making it one of the region’s most prevalent cancers.

Morgan said: “My mum’s bravery inspired me to set up this company. She has been given the all clear with her cancer, but I know from her journey how difficult the diagnosis can be.”

Perth lingerie a global online hit

Lingerie is not something that should purely be worn to please a love interest, according to Perth’s leading intimates designer.

Rather, Aimee Kendall, the creative behind social-media sensation Aimee- Cherie Intimates, says it’s far more important for women to feel sexy for themselves.

Perth-based Kendall has built up a large fan base for her burgeoning brand, with almost 79,000 Instagram followers waiting eagerly for each release of her delicate bralettes and lace undergarments.

She believes her customers are not buying her lingerie to appeal to that special someone in their lives but instead to feel powerful and sensual on an everyday basis.

“Lingerie is definitely not just something they wear for their partners, they are girls doing their own thing which is really nice,” Kendall toldAAA Weekend .

“I just want to make sure they feel comfortable. To me, lingerie shouldn’t be something you only wear on special occasions; I think you should be able to wear beautiful pieces regardless of where you are going.

“You could be running errands but know you have something really pretty on underneath, and it makes you feel good.”

It’s not just regular women building their own micro-collections of Aimee- Cherie designs. The label also has a growing stable of celebrity admirers.

“The most exciting one was definitely Lorde,” Kendall said. “We found out she was a fan on New Year’s Day so it was a really good start to the year.

“We also have some other followers like Nicole Trunfio and Jodi Anasta, and they keep in touch with the label which is really encouraging.”

With all Aimee-Cherie products handmade in Perth, Instagram is the driving force behind the brand’s growing international profile and Kendall recently released her third collection on the image-sharing sight.

Heaven Wilde stars local model Ebony Hunter in its campaign imagery and pre-orders are selling like hot cakes as a result.

“(Instagram) allows us to connect with people all around the world and compete against the bigger brands,” the designer explained.

“Especially with lingerie, it’s such a little market here but for us to be able to compete with everyone else is really important. It’s also really cost-effective and for a small business it’s great to have a tool that’s not going to set your budget back for the year.”
