Social media ‘personality’ and father of six Trey Pennington has died after an apparent suicide, it emerged today.
Pennignton, from Greenville South Carolina, was known in the on-line community for his social media consultancy, regular blogs and radio station.
According to police, Pennington killed himself in a church parking lot early on Sunday.
Tragic: Social media guru Trey Pennington took his own life, leaving behind a wife and six children
On his Twitter page, the new media guru described himself as a ‘Marketing pro, speaker, author, dreamer.’
According to his Facebook page Pennington had a wife and at least six children.
Mr Pennington was due to speak at a marketing conference in England this week.
After hearing of his death, conference organiser Glenn Le Santo said the event would be dedicated in his honour.
Speaking to the Lincolnite he said: ‘Trey was an inspirational man and his loss is tragic. We are all stunned and very upset.
‘Trey was born in Mobil, in the southern USA, and he had that typical warmth that’s always associated with the Deep South.
‘He was smart, generous and very sensitive. His demise followed a period of depression – but one we thought he had come through.
‘We feel robbed, both of a friend and of a great colleague.
‘The LincUpLive conference this week will be dedicated to his memory. All profits and donations will go to The Samaritans.’
In a final Tweet on Sunday, just hours before his death, he wrote: ‘Sure am thankful for online friends who are real friends offline, too. Love you.’
