In Lingerie to surprise Zo Impressive in TVG Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga
Todd Pletcher’s progressive filly, In Lingerie, holds an obvious chance of upsetting Zo Impressive in TVG Coaching Club American Oaks, to be held at Saratoga on Saturday, July 21st. The Grade 1 event is designed for the 3-year-old fillies, and
carries a purse of $300,000.
In Lingerie stepped up to the graded events with a huge bang at Turfway Park in March this year. The Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks saw her doing a wonderful act, beating Dancing Solo by half a dozen lengths to ensure a comprehensive victory.
She kept progressing, and won a Grade 2 event at Pimlico in May. In the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, she made an outstanding effort, beating Disposablepleasure by one and a quarter lengths. After two graded triumphs, the daughter of Empire Maker is all set to
show her magic at the highest level of the sport.
The odds are not in her favour, but the way she has been performing over the past few months, one can easily expect her to produce a shocking result. Other runners in the mega meeting are: Zo Impressive, Questing, Disposablepleasure, Yara and Funny Proposition.
Zo Impressive is the centre of attention following her superb Grade 1 win at Belmont Park. In late June, Thomas Albertrani’s trainee played her card very wisely in the Mother Goose Stakes, notching up the first spot by ¾ a length.
Bred by Live Oak Stud, the 3-year-old has been performing splendidly since the start of this season. She was runner-up in the Grade 1 TVG Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park in May.
Questing, who was fifth in last year’s Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, will aim to shock the aforementioned pair. But, it is going to be an uphill task for her.
There are a few powerful runners in the race, but the real battle will be between Zo Impressive and In Lingerie. The going is fast, which will be a huge plus for In Lingerie.
If she manages to inflict some pressure on her major rival in the beginning, her chances of bagging the first prize will automatically go up. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.

Godolphin Racing’s Questing earned the first Grade 1 win of her career and gave 19-year-old jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. the same when she took the $300,000 TVG Coaching Club American Oaks by 4 1/4 lengths at Saratoga Race Course July 21.
Ortiz piloted the 3-year-old daughter of Hard Spun to victory over Zo Impressive and 7-2 favorite In Lingerie with textbook style, refusing to allow Yara and jockey Joel Rosario to steal the 1 1/8-mile event on the front end. Placing his mount just behind Yara as she went an opening quarter through :23.21, Ortiz sent his Kiaran McLaughlin-trained mount up to grab the lead for a half in :47.65.
Questing rolled off the turn in command through three quarters in 1:12.20, and although she drifted out in the lane while clocking a mile in 1:37.16, the closers could not get to her. She slipped under the wire in the center of the track in a final time of 1:50.30.
Questing returned $9.80, $5.70, and $3.70 while Zo Impressive paid $3.80 and $2.60 and In Lingerie brought $2.40.
Bred in Great Britain by Darley out of the Seeking the Gold mare Chercheuse, Questing improved her career record to 3-1-1 from eight starts with earnings of $314,876. It was her second straight victory off a June 24 allowance optional claimer going a mile at Belmont Park; she took that event by 3 3/4 lengths.
