Quiet little East Bay burg Castro Valley was scheduled to host their first ever Pride march tomorrow afternoon, but greater-than-anticipated interest in the event — at least 300 (!) people have said they’re coming on Facebook — has pushed organizers to abandon the marching and move the event to the Castro Valley High School parking lot. They’re now calling it the Rainbow Rally Across the Valley.

The first of its kind bacchanal for LGBT teens and others of unincorporated Alameda County was expected only to draw a few dozen participants and onlookers. But the Facebook response caused some anxiety amongst adults in the community who are suddenly picturing, no doubt, a bejeweled and glittered horde of shirtless men and drag queens descending on their sleepy downtown. The three teen organizers of the event agreed to move it to the high school parking lot (19400 Santa Maria Avenue, Castro Valley), where it will kick off at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. It just might be a big crowded hoot! But as one local teenager correctly observed, “It’s Facebook, people say they’re coming but then don’t.”
