Bogotá to “BCool” with fashion

A citywide fashion event kicks off Thursday which aims to showcase the best of local designers and offer Bogotanos the chance to renew their wardrobes. It’s called ‘B Capital’ and it’s the very first time, the Medellín fashion and textile entity, Inexmoda, comes to the capital to host an important fashion event.

There are three concepts to this three day event: BFashion, BSmart and BCool. The letter “B” referring to Bogotá, of course, and Bogotanos will have a complete fashion experience from runways, to meeting top models, and getting the latest fashions at reasonable prices.

If the capital is the largest consumer market in the country, it ranks 4th in the terms of per capita spending on fashion. Bogotanos, it seems, are reticent to go out and stock up on new clothes! Hence, Inexmoda, with its two decades of experience in promoting Colombian fashion with its celebrated show, Colombia Moda, believes Bogotá’s time has come to jump on the fashion bandwagon. “This is a long term project” affirms Carlos Eduardo Botero, President of Inexmoda. “We want to help this city become more fashion aware.”

The main events are being held in a former textile warehouse in Puente Aranda, (Cra 30 No.24-02) and once visitors have registered with www.bcapital.com.co they can take in the runway shows with the BFashion listing. On Thursday night, photographer Ruven Afanador will work alongside designer Olga Piedrahita in a rare presentation which offers guests a chance to see how a world renown portrait photographer works.

On Friday, it’s “Fashion Marathon” with shows by Atelier Crump, Entreaguas, Faride Ramos, Julieta Suarez and Lina Cantillo. From presenting the latest in lingerie to street fashion, B Capital wants to go beyond the catwalks to become a city institution. A yearly meeting place for industry professionals, designers, students and customers of “ready to wear.”

Even though there is along line up of well-known designers, the BCool category presents the country’s up and coming talent and opens a space for design expression. Check out the Pop Up Store with clothes for the budget-conscious consumer. And then, there’s a host of Fashion Films curated by Medellín’s Fashion Film Festival.

Last, but not least, we all need to BSmart when it comes to clothing. This is the academic part of the event and will be held in venues such as the Centro Comercial Andino, C.C El Retiro, La Salle College and San Victorino market. From lectures to workshops, there’s an extensive invite list, so if you feel like talking with fashion with experts, this is your opportunity, and one, which for the time being, will come to town, just once a year.
