The National Football League lockout is over and we’re a month away from the kickoff of the regular season. Now is the time to get a fantasy football league together, and Facebook can be a very useful tool for doing that.

Facebook can be used to run a league and for drafting and roster tips, plus it can help you communicate with the friends you want to join your league.

Sure, you can invite your Facebook friends to your league on Yahoo Sports, NFL.com and ESPN.com, but there are two apps that allow you to run a league on Facebook

Join the more than 300,000 others playing fantasy football on Facebook with the Citizen Sports from Yahoo app. It offers free live scoring, custom settings, live draft, Yahoo content, drag and drop lineup, mobile access and more. It’s basically like running a Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football League on Facebook.

SportsIllustrated.com also has a free app for playing fantasy football directly on the social network. You can invite Facebook friends to join your league and post trash talk directly to a Facebook wall.

Even the most knowledgeable of football fans question who to start and who to sit on their fantasy roster. Some good pages to help you make the right choice include FantasyFootballToday.com, RotoWorld.com, RotoWire.com and FantasyFootballToolbox.com. All are free, provide daily news updates and have a team of experts to answer your fantasy football questions from drafting to late-season pickups.

You can even watch CBSSports.com’s Fantasy Football Today show on Facebook for up-to-the-minute information and player analysis. The app streams the live Internet show every Sunday during the NFL season.

Readers, which sports do you follow on Facebook?

One of the most popular features of the Plus mobile app is the “Nearby” functionality that lets you view public posts in your vicinity.

Until this makes it to the web version, we have a workaround that lets you view the location-based stream on your computer.

The URL for the mobile version of Google+ is
m.google.com/plus, however, entering this in your browser will just redirect you to an info landing page about Google mobile

Entering https://m.google.com/app/plus/, however, will load up the mobile version proper and let you tune into those local posts.
