Ann Summers Apologises for ‘ISIS’ Lingerie Line

In a somewhat surreal statement, British lingerie chain Ann Summers has issued an apology for releasing a line of sexy underwear named “Isis”. The range features bras, knickers and thongs in white with a black lace detailing, coincidentally the colours used in the flag of the Islamic extremist group of the same name currently terrorising Iraq and Syria.

Ann Summers insists that the range of skimpy lingerie is actually named after the Egyptian Goddess Isis, not, as some critics have suggested, the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, and that the whole thing is an unfortunate concurrence of events.

“Range names for our products are chosen far in advance of the collections landing in-stores and online. In this instance, the inspiration behind this range name was taken from the Ancient Egyptian goddess Isis,” the statement read.

“We acknowledge the unfortunate timing of this product launch in our store windows, however we in no way support or condone any act of terrorism or violence. We apologize for any offence caused.”

Speaking to The Independent, an Ann Summers employee explained “We thought up the name over six months ago. It wasn’t until all the PR was done for the portfolio when the name meant something else. It was too late to change it.”

The incident has become an object of mirth on social media. Breitbart London contributor Alexandra Swann tweeted “I rather like that Ann Summers have a range of lingerie called Isis. Few things piss off Islamists like lacy thongs”, and Twitter user Adam York tweeted “It’s a glorious day when the Gods align and create a scenario where @ann_summers have to deny supporting terrorism.”
