The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show might technically revolve around clothing, but everyone knows that the lingerie is never the star of the show. Since its inception in 1995, the show has evolved into a fashion spectacle of massive proportions, one that’s part concert, part catwalk, and part pop culture explosion. And obviously, this is a model’s dream gig (and not just because of the diamond-encrusted, million-dollar Fantasy bra). 

It might just be one night, but the months of buzz, the social media campaigns, and the instant worldwide recognition that comes from walking in the show make the months of fitness training and the rigorous casting process more than worth it. The event is a fast-track to household-name status, partly because Victoria’s Secret encourages the girls to show off their personalities on the runway, a rare request in the modeling industry. (And if they feel like lip-synching to Taylor Swift backstage, well, that’s even better.) 

Supermodels like Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Karlie Kloss might be VS runway veterans, but there are still some things you probably didn’t know about even the most famous Angels. And considering this show is all about showing off the personalities—as well as the bodies, of course—it’s only fitting we shared them with you.
