As the owner of Coeur, Mona Lisa Jackson wants to ensure that women are outfitted in quality intimate apparel.
Jackson specializes in offering her customers a personal touch when they visit her upscale lingerie boutique in the heart of the Rittenhouse Square shopping district, Coeur specializes in European lingerie. The small boutique offers a beautiful array of intimate apparel from brands such as Hanky Panky, Cosabella, Chantelle, Elomi, Pluto and Zimmerli.
Jackson, 57, enjoys providing her customers with that personal touch. When women visit her shop, she offers them the opportunity to be properly fitted for a brassiere. She’s encountered many women who don’t understand the importance of having a quality brassiere with the right fit. Jackson regards a bra as the foundation of a woman’s outfit.
“Some people think of it as a luxury, but a good fitting bra is definitely a necessity,”she stressed.
“You can have a $1 million top on (but) it’s not going to look anywhere near that until your foundation piece is correct.”
When Coeur hosted a Fantasie trunk show in June, Jackson appreciated the opportunity to offer selections for the full-figured woman.
Coeur features a high-end mixture of brightly colored panties, lacy bras, basic camis, nightgowns and shapewear as well as tee shirts.
Jackson opened the doors to Coeur, which means “heart” in French, 17 years ago. Though she didn’t have any retail experience, she decided to bring a lingerie business to Center City.
She’s weathered the recent economic downturn, though she’s seen many retailers in the neighborhood close.
Despite the challenges wrought by the economy, Jackson is determined to stay the course.
“I’m determined to stay because I’ve already invested 17 years and because I really feel like what I do is so very much needed. That’s what keeps me here,” she said.
“I love what I do. It makes a difference, what I do.”
A recent report by the research firm IBISWorld indicates that following a drop in spending during the recession, the demand for lingerie products has rebounded and revenue is expected to grow during 2014.
IBISWorld Industry analyst Britanny Carter notes that product line expansion and favorable consumer trends have boosted demand for lingerie stores.
