The 21-year-old faced the ultimate wardrobe malfunction when she ran out of time mid-way through a costume change.

But many fans mistook her lingerie for her latest raunchy outfit.

The Wrecking Ball singer took to Twitter to set the record straight, telling followers: “Not a new outfit.

“I didn’t make my quick change and I couldn’t not come out for the song so I just had to run out in my undies! :(”

The blonde wore just underwear and trainers for the whole of her song 23 before dashing backstage to change at the venue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She normally performs the track wearing a costume that includes a pair of crotchless chaps.
