An Austin man was arrested on several charges after 12 vehicles, including a police unit, were broken into early Thursday morning.
According to the Austin Police Department, 20-year-old Hayden Dougan was arrested Thursday afternoon.
A total of four credit/debit cards were stolen, and Dougan unsuccessfully tried to steal a rifle from the police car.
After a short investigation, it was determined that the suspect used the stolen cards at a Cabot gas station, a lingerie store in Jacksonville and at the North Little Rock Walmart.
Officers stopped the Dougan’s vehicle Thursday afternoon for not having a license plate, and during a subsequent search located around 15 syringes, one loaded with Oxycontin, as well as several spoons with burnt residue.
Dougan admitted to the break-ins, as well as 10 others committed in the same area in June.
Dougan was arrested and transported to the Lonoke County Detention Center, and is being charged with six felony counts of breaking or entering, five felony counts of theft of property, felony possession of controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. More charges are pending.
Chief Staley is asking all citizens to assist in the prevention of these types of crimes by removing all valuables from vehicles and to be sure vehicles are locked and secured.
