Vanessa Simmons is no stranger to the world of fashion, having co-founded the successful accessory and shoe collection, Pastry, with her sister Angela Simmons. Now she is branching out on her own with her sexy lingerie and swimwear line, Rose by Vanessa Jean. The line hopes to provide women of all shapes and sizes with fun and fashionable lingerie to make them feel beautiful and sexy.  Promising rich details like diamond embellishments, deep textures, frills, and bold tones, Rose by Vanessa Jean will be comprised of three different collections: lace lingerie from “Rock Your Sexy”, bridal couture and fun prints from “Naughty Lil’ Princess”, and old Hollywood glamour from “Vintage Chic”. To create each line, Vanessa went through thousands of samples, handpicking the ones she felt highlighted and accentuated the natural curves of a woman to produce the most beautiful silhouette possible. An intimate line promoting the idea of women’s empowerment, the lingerie is meant to enhance confidence, sensuality, and femininity.

To celebrate the launch of her solo collection, Vanessa also hosted a nationwide model search to find three fresh new faces for the line. Announcing the international model search in partnership with Facebook, Vanessa invited all interested girls ages 17 and older to apply. The semi finals were held June 4th -8th here in Los Angeles and were broadcast live on Ustream.

Now the competition is up to the voters, with the winner being chosen by an online vote. The winning model receives the opportunity to work with Rose by Vanessa Jean for a year as a model and brand ambassador. Second place wins a chance to walk in a Rose by Vanessa Jean runway show and the third place model will be featured on the Rose by Vanessa Jean e-commerce site.  Serving as one of the model search judges as well as a mentor for Vanessa’s line is Daymond John, star of ABC’s entrepreneurial reality series “Shark Tank” and CEO of hip hop line, FUBU. Other judges included Vanessa herself and “America’s Next Top Model” winner Danielle Evans. The runway competition was also hosted by actor Wesley Johnathon (“What I Like About You”).

Fashion designer and mogul is just part of the resume of Vanessa Simmons. She is also a former reality tv star, starring in “Run’s House” on MTV with her whole family from 2005-2009 and the spin off, “Daddy’s Girls” from 2009-2010, which chronicled her and sister Angela’s move to Los Angeles. She is also an actress, most recently starring in “Boogie Town” opposite Katerina Graham (“Vampire Diaries”) and Brenda Song (“The Social Network”). When asked where the name Rose by Vanessa Jean came from, she said “Rose to me, an actual rose, is reminiscent of a woman; very pretty, delicate to look at but if you look closely there are thorns all over the stem. Those thorns are what make our stories. Those thorns are what connects us as women. We’re always looking to be perfect but there is no perfect, it’s a fleeting illusion. It’s about connecting women no matter their shape, their color, their size, where they come from, together through something as delicate as lingerie and swimwear.”

Mentor Daymond John has quite an extensive and impressive resume himself. He currently appears as an investor on “Shark Tank” and is probably best known as the founder, CEO and president of FUBU, an acronym standing for “For Us By Us”. He has also written two books; his autobiography, Display of Power and the business minded book, The Brand Within. When asked to elaborate more on his mentoring role in the Rose by Vanessa Jean line, he said, “I’m here to really guide Vanessa because I believe Vanessa was America’s Sweetheart and now she is a typical American woman. I want to make sure that the business side, the brand side and the strategy is all in place as she guides herself to becoming a young mogul. Already she had Pastry and she set a standard and a tone. She has an understanding of the business in a viable way to move product. Now as she moves on in this next genre of her life, I’m here to guide.”

The line is currently scheduled to debut this fall and Vanessa and Daymond are hoping the line will be stocked in a variety of stores all over the world. When asked to name a store which would be an ideal home for her brand, Vanessa replied, “a place like Bloomingdale’s that has a mass market appeal but it’s still very high end. A place that is accessible for people all over the globe. Because I’m not creating it just for a specific kind of person. I’m really trying to get it to all women as a whole so I want it to be available as many different possible places.” Adds Daymond, “I think initially she’s going to just develop it and see where the opportunities are. It starts to get dictated as you start to see the buyers. As she develops it, we’ll look for everybody from co-branded designing people, retailers who are partners and then maybe freestanding.” This fall, keep your eyes peeled for lingerie and swimwear from Rose by Vanessa Jean!
