TEMPE, AZ – Arizona State University Police launched their Facebook and Twitter pages last week as a way to inform students about incidents on campus, but it has also turned into a way for students to inform the police.

Students can Tweet or Facebook a crime tip if they don’t want to contact the department directly.

But keep in mind the pages are not substitutes for 911.

The department makes it very clear on the Facebook page that the websites are not constantly monitored.

“A lot of people are hesitant to call [police],” said freshman Andrew Kalkowski. “This is a great medium.”

Students can also ask the department a question about any incident, and an officer will do his or her best to respond, said ASU Police.
