Google+ is generating an unprecedented buzz within the social media marketing industry, however the Internet’s latest social network also has the power to affect search engine optimisation, according to an article featured on marketri.com.
Unlike Facebook and Twitter, Google+ links also follow links that incorporate PageRank – an algorithm used by Google to measure the importance and define the rank of each page in a standard Google search.
Meanwhile, links shared on other social networking sites are classed as NoFollow links – this is a value used to indicate to search engines that the link shouldn’t influence its target site’s ranking in a search index.
As a result, these links will not influence SEO ranking – whereas the links provided by Google+ will.
Therefore any possible backlink building – links on other sites that lead back your own – is advisable to be carried out on Google+, as this in the future could only boost the results yielded by SEO strategy.
Of course, these changes will not affect social marketing on Facebook or Twitter in itself – that is, if a potential customer searches for a particular brand within Facebook, their page will still be displayed.
