Facebook posse pursues scooter thief — again

Steal her scooter once, shame on you. Steal her scooter twice, and she’ll offer a cash reward.

The first theft occurred March 21, when someone swiped Robin Maynard’s $3,300 olive-green scooter from her driveway after she forgot to put the wheel lock on. Maynard runs Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation, a group that raises money to provide health services for uninsured women in Central Florida and uses scooters in an annual fundraising ride.

Maynard, a former crime-scene investigator for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, did not sit idly by. She and her friends embarked on a manhunt in east Orlando, aided by constant Facebook posts and tips. The culprit was tracked down in less than 48 hours, and the chase was documented with pictures and a video of the arrest, labeled the “take-down.”

Last week, Maynard became the unlikely victim of scooter larceny yet again. The same scooter was taken from the yard outside her Orlando home.

Maynard rounded up her Facebook posse for another adventure, and their pages have been brimming with updates. This time, Maynard has upped the ante. Tipsters providing information leading to an arrest could receive free mammograms, at least $375 and a rubdown at Bodyscape Massage in Orlando.
