Facebook is looking to grab the interest of small business owners who haven’t tried social media marketing yet. Called Facebook for Business, the educational program runs entrepreneurs through the basics of maintaining a presence on the social network.

First, small business owners are shown how to set up a brand page, using eye-catching photos and company information. Then, Facebook explains how to launch a social media marketing strategy, build a community of fans and analyze metrics to generate better results from digital marketing efforts on the social network.

“Facebook allows small businesses to create rich social experiences, build lasting relationships and amplify the most powerful type of marketing – word of mouth,” a Facebook spokesperson told GigaOm. “We created Facebook.com/business to make it even easier for people to reach these objectives and grow.”

Facebook for Business might be just the program the social network needs to get first-time marketers to take the plunge. According to a recent report from Hiscox USA, 14 percent of small business owners said they didn’t know enough about social media marketing to launch a campaign.
