Social networking giant Facebook has filed a lawsuit against 25 domain name holders, which have been accused of infringing its trademark.

The domain names, or ‘typosquatters’ as Facebook calls them, are using typos or names similar to ‘Facebook.com’. The company is claiming that the domains are infringing on its trademark and plans to get them cancelled or have them transferred to Facebook.

“(The) defendants’ schemes also diminish the goodwill associated with Facebook and its marks, injure Facebook’s reputation, breach enforceable agreements between Defendants and Facebook, interfere with Facebook’s business, and unjustly enrich Defendants,” Facebook said in the lawsuit.

“Facebook therefore seeks an order cancelling Defendants’ rights in their typosquatter domain names or transferring those typosquatter domain names to Facebook, awarding Facebook damages and providing other relief,” the company continued.

Some of the domain names being targeted by the company include ‘facebobk.com’, ‘facemook.com’, ‘wwwfacefook.com’, ‘ffacebook.com’ and ‘faecbook.com’. The company is most likely to win this lawsuit, having won similar lawsuits in the past.

Facebook had gone after domain names which used its name in them. The company has won lawsuits against FacebookStuff.com and KillFacebook.com. Facebook had also targeted ‘Lamebook.com’ earlier, claiming that its usage of the world ‘book’ was misleading customers.
