A winter storm slamming the Midwest from Chicago to Detroit has swept drivers up in a flurry.

Michigan cities are seeing snowfall totals climb toward record highs Saturday and the state’s Department of Transportation said it is still witnessing a number of crashes and road closures.

The snow total for Detroit was 9.2 inches at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, according to Jordan Dale, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service White Lake Office.

Chicago experienced light snow Saturday, which will continue into Sunday with 1 to 3 inches.

Friday’s storm dumped 6 inches across the city but over the last 24 hours, suburbs bordering Chicago got hit much worse. Several communities saw from 10 to 13 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.

The storm caused many school closings Friday, dozens of crashes and at least 1,000 flights cancellations.
