Anthony Rapp has accused Kevin Spacey of trying to “seduce” him when he was only 14.
The longtime movie, TV and Broadway actor, who’s 46 and openly gay, opened up about the alleged incident in a BuzzFeed article published Sunday, just hours before Spacey apologized and came out as a gay man.
Rapp alleged that then-26-year-old Spacey invited him to his Manhattan apartment for a party in 1986. (They were both starring in hit Broadway plays at the time.) Rapp says he was the only teen at the party and spent most of the evening in a bedroom watching television when he realized everyone had left and he was alone with Spacey.

“My memory was that I thought, ‘Oh, everybody’s gone. Well, yeah, I should probably go home,’” Rapp told BuzzFeed. Spacey, he said, “sort of stood in the doorway, kind of swaying. My impression when he came in the room was that he was drunk … He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.”
“He was trying to seduce me,” Rapp said. “I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”
Here’s what to know about Rapp.
He’s starred in several hit shows and movies
Rapp started screen acting in the 1987 movie Adventures in Babysitting directed by Chris Columbus. From there he went on to roles in memorable movies like Matthew McConaughey’s Dazed and Confused, Six Degrees of Separation, A Beautiful Mind and Twister.
The actor also dabbled in TV work, appearing in episodes of The X-Files, Spin City, Psych and Law Order: SVU. He recently landed a starring role in Star Trek: Discovery — a TV reboot taking place in the popular sci-fi universe.
He gained attention for his role in Broadway’s Rent
Rapp is also well know for his work on stage as a Broadway actor and initially got his show-business start in the short-lived musical The Little Prince and the Aviator in 1981 when he was 10-years-old.

After acting in several hit productions, Rapp got a starring role in the hit musical Rent in 1995. The actor originated the lead role of Mark Cohen, a struggling filmmaker and the narrator of the show.
The actor later reprised his role in Chris Columbus’ 2005 movie adaptation. He also reunited with Rent costar Idina Menzel on Broadway in 2014 for the musical If/Then.
He plays one of the first gay characters in the Star Trek universe
Rapp currently stars as Lt. Stamets in the CBS All Access reboot of the Star Trek franchise. Lt. Stamets is the new gay character in the universe after Trek icon Lt. Sulu — originally played by George Takei — was revealed to be gay in Star Trek Beyond. The character is also in the first gay relationship on the show with Wilson Cruz’s Dr. Hugh Calber.
“It’s really satisfying to have writing made available that shows these different colors,” Rapp told Variety. “I’m glad and I’m proud that our writers have approached our relationship in this manner.”
