FORECAST IN DETAIL

Today is another one of those “is this really August?” kinds of days with comfortable temperatures and humidity. While I am sure some heat lurks in our future, this break should help get us through the rest of summer in a happier place. Friday and the weekend are more humid, and storms become a threat. For now, the highest storm chances seem to be late Friday.

Today (Thursday): Sunshine and almost cool temperatures start the day. A few clouds pop up as the day progresses but shower chances are nil. A very light breeze from the southeast should keep things comfortable as humidity is only moderate and highs settle in the low-to-mid 80s. Confidence: High

Tonight: Clouds slowly increase overnight and a spot or two might see a very light shower, but most areas remain dry. Winds are calm and lows range through the 60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): The sun only makes brief appearances as clouds and rising humidity are dominant.  While a stray shower is possible any time, scattered storms become more likely as the afternoon progresses. Winds are mainly calm except near thunderstorms. Highs likely reach the lower 80s in most of the area. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Storm chances linger through the night and a few could be locally heavy. However, most areas are expected to see .10 to .50 inches. Winds are very light, and lows fall to the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday could still have a few lingering showers but drier weather is likely to push in from west to east at a decent pace, improving prospects of some afternoon pool time. Late in the day, our eastern areas have the best chance of pop-up showers and storms. Highs should be mainly low-to-mid 80s. Skies should be fairly open in the evening, giving a chance to see the Perseid meteor shower through much of the night. Lows are mainly mid-to-upper 60s but lower 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Skies cloud up again Sunday but showers should be slow to return from the south and may not arrive until evening. Highs in the low-to-mid 80s can be expected. The storm chances continue through the overnight areas. Lows hold in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Monday has a good chance of showers and possibly some significant storms, but it’s too soon to tell how potent. Highs are mainly upper 70s to lower 80s unless the rains falter, and then mid-80s would prevail. Confidence: Low
